Feng shui can be used to decorate your home to create a caring, nurturing, enjoyable, and peaceful environment. Feng shui decorating tips vary slightly from conventional decorating tips, but once you start using feng shui, you’ll have a harmoniously decorated home to enjoy!

Feng shui decorating is a style of interior design that aims to instill a sense of joy and harmony in your home. Feng shui decorating does not always imply creating a Zen-style home; instead, it entails creating an atmosphere with the best energy to promote the particular activity, or activities, intended for that room.

A home office requires lively, active energy of the performance, while a bedroom requires soft, sensual energy. Following basic feng shui concepts in your decorating efforts will help you achieve the desired energies.

Before you begin the actual decorating process, you must first prepare your home for feng shui. Clearing old energy residues and establishing a solid and consistent energy base is a mandatory feng shui requirement. What does this imply in terms of application?

It implies that you must clear your clutter. From a feng shui perspective, it makes no sense to decorate a cluttered house. It’s akin to putting high-end make-up on an unwashed face. Why would you do anything like that? Only after the old energy has been cleared can you begin the feng shui decorating process. But wait, there’s one more step before you can start experimenting with colors, textures, and a plethora of feng shui remedies!

Let’s take a look at some of the latest feng shui decorating ideas.

Air and light of high quality

These two elements are essential for good Chi, or feng shui energy, in your home and feng shui decorating. So, if you’ve completed all of the prerequisites — your home is clutter-free (or nearly clutter-free), you have good quality air and good quality light — you’re ready to begin feng shui decorating!

Define Your Home’s Energy Map

The Bagua, or energy map, of your home will act as a model, or a transparent map, indicating what colors should be used in particular spaces, what photos should be used in your home, how to arrange furniture for the best energy flow, and so on. Knowing the Bagua is essential for feng shui decorating success, so don’t skip this step.

Color will help you achieve good feng shui.

Color is a very effective way to change the energy in your home and get the results you want much faster. As a result, knowing how to use color effectively is critical for a good feng shui design. Is blue fine feng shui for your living room? Is it okay to use red in the key entry? Check it out.

Define the Feng Shui Products You Need

You might have several of them already, or you might need a beautiful fountain and some fantastic feng shui art, plus maybe a Buddha image in your home office to go with your decor scheme.

Though good feng shui decorating does not necessitate a Zen-like room (or a Chinese-style establishment), it does necessitate decorating with intent and using unique objects as feng shui cures.

Feng Shui cures can be found in modern decor.

So, you’ve purchased your fountain and your crystals; now what? Where and how do you place them in your home for the best feng shui? Of course, the first step is to consult your home’s Bagua (as you did in step #2 above). The next step in feng shui decorating is to place your cures in your easiest, or lucky, directions.

Final Thoughts

When using feng shui to decorate your home, it’s important to think about the big picture (your entire house or apartment) and “zoom in” on each room to get the best feng shui energy.

The Entrance Foyer
The entrance to your home is called the “mouth of qi.” This means that the front door is the gateway for all the qi, or life force energy, to reach your home and life. It’s one of the most critical aspects of feng shui to consider.

Checklist for Entrance

  • Make sure the entrance is well-lit.
  • Maintain a clutter-free environment.
  • Check to see if the doorbell is working properly.

In the Living Room

The living room is a gathering place for friends and family members of the household. It’s usually a more open area. It’s best if you keep it open and welcoming.

Checklist for the Living Room

  • Decorate your living room with colors from the five elements corresponding to the energies you want to cultivate.
  • Inviting more health, development, and kindness into your home can be as simple as adding green house plants.
  • Arrange the sofa and/or chairs so that they are in a dominant role.

Dining Room

We meet in the dining room to eat and nourish one another. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with our loved ones and check in with them. It also symbolizes friendship.

Checklist for the Dining Room

  • If the dining table is being used for something else, make sure it is cleared for meals.
  • To draw more friendships into your life, eat at the dining table regularly.
  • Fresh flowers can be provided to welcome energy and unstick all of our relationships with others.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is another significant feng shui room in the house, representing prosperity, abundance, and health. What we eat has a strong impact on how we present ourselves in the world. The stove is inextricably linked to your wealth and well-being.

Checklist for the Kitchen

  • Maintain a clean and well-maintained stove.
  • Even if it’s to boil water, use the stove at least once a day. This helps to keep the energy flowing.
  • Dispose of expired food in the refrigerator and pantry regularly.

Family Room

The family room is an additional, more intimate meeting area. It’s a lovely space in which to spend quality time with your mates.

Checklist for the Family Room

  • Ensure that there is a seat for every person in the house.
  • Use the five element colors to decorate your home according to the energies you want to cultivate.
  • To bring the family together and ground them, a rug can be put in the center of the room.

Bedroom

Since the bedroom reflects the individual who sleeps there, it’s a good place to start incorporating feng shui into your home. Feng shui adjustments in the bedroom can work quickly and effectively here because you spend most of your life sleeping in your bed.

Bedroom Checklist

  • Place your bed in the commanding role if it’s not possible, correct for it.
  • Removed any storage and clutter from underneath the bed. Ideally, it’s completely open to air and qi circulation.
  • Make sure that you have a headboard that’s firmly fixed to the bed.

Home Office

The home office is vital if you often work from home if this is your main office space. Your office space and the desk symbolizes your career. Therefore, the feng shui of your home office greatly affects your success in your work.

Home Office Checklist

  • Place your desk in the commanding position if it’s not possible, correct for it.
  • Check that you use a chair with a back. A desk chair with a back provides more support. And everyone can use support in their career.
  • Make sure you have at least three feet of space between the desk and chair.

Hallways

Hallways are like the arteries where we circulate the qi through our homes. Therefore, don’t forget to feng shui in the hallways.

Hallway Checklist

  • Keep narrow hallways clear of clutter. Avoid making them too difficult to walk through as it represents obstacles in our lives.
  • Photos and artwork are great in the hallways, especially long ones.
  • Be sure hallways are well lit.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a lot of water elements, which can lead to the draining away wealth. Start by keeping the bathroom sparkling clean so it can truly be a spa-like place of rest and recuperation.

Bathroom Checklist

  • A living green houseplant on top of the toilet can transform the downward water energy into upward life energy because plants grow and flourish with water.
  • Keep the toilet seat shut when not in use.
  • Keep the mirrors clean so that they can reflect with clarity.

Closets

Closets can represent hidden areas of our lives and need attention just as much as the living spaces.

Closet Checklist

  • Regularly declutter and donate anything that is no longer needed.
  • Sweep out the dust bunnies that accumulate in the hidden corners.
  • Keep a little space open rather than packing the closet full. This way, you send the message to the universe that you have space to invite new opportunities into your life.
